Release Date: 2/28/2005. Expired: 3/28/2005
Summer fun is just around the corner and reservations for the sixth year of Camp Renaissance will begin filling up soon.
The unique experience of Camp Renaissance is slated for four one-week sessions this year and many campers are already making sure they will get to be part of the fun.
Camp sessions for 2005 are June 13-17, June 20-24, June 27-July 1 and July 11-15. Camp Renaissance is a daycamp for campers ages 6-14. The fee is $145 per child per week and the registration deadline is June 3. Campers registering after June 3, if any spaces are available, will pay a $10 late registration fee.
“What makes Camp Renaissance so unique is the combination of traditional outdoor activities at our Adventure Camp site and the wonderful entertainment and educational activities at The Renaissance Center,” said Paul McCardle, camp director. “Nowhere else do campers get to learn the self-confidence of rappelling one day, enjoy a live theatre performance and a planetarium show another day, and learn team-building skills on a low-ropes course on another. It really is a new adventure every day.”
The Adventure Camp site is located at the former Ruskin Cave resort property in northwestern Dickson County. The site includes a 50-foot climbing and rappelling tower, a 400-foot zipline, the largest swimming pool in the county, a riflery range, an archery range, a skeet range, fishing pond, sand volleyball court, basketball court, arts and crafts pavilion, beautiful Yellow Creek, low-ropes course and five caves, including beautiful Jewel Cave.
With a professionally trained and certified staff, campers learn self-confidence and a variety of skills in a safe and fun environment.
As part of the camp week, campers visit The Renaissance Center where they get to enjoy planetarium and laser music shows in the CyberSphere Digital Theatre, a live theatre production from the Young Actors Studio, music activities, an interactive science show in the Faraday Science Theatre and more.
“Camp Renaissance offers one of the most well-rounded camp experiences in a structured and well-supervised environment that promotes fun and safety,” McCardle said. “It’s no wonder that we see many of our campers coming for more than just one week each summer and returning for more fun each year.”
Camp Renaissance offers free bus transportation each morning and afternoon from The Renaissance Center to the adventure campsite. Bus transportation also can be available to a variety of sites outside Dickson County for a minimal fee with a minimum of 25 campers. Other potential bus stops include Bellevue, Kingston Springs, McEwen/Waverly, East Hickman and Cunningham/Clarksville.
There is no bus service on Friday afternoons at the conclusion of each camp week. The camp sessions end with a Parent’s Cookout at the Adventure Camp site, allowing parents to visit the camp and see what their campers have been doing as well as participate in an awards ceremony.
