Release Date: 1/17/2006. Expired: 1/24/2006

The Renaissance Center’s Learning Lab is offering a beginning conversational Spanish class on Tuesday nights beginning Jan. 24.

Adult Beginning Conversational Spanish will introduce the student to the basic principles of Spanish grammar and vocabulary. There will be a focus on simple verb conjugations such as the first person singular (I) and first person plural (we) forms, as well as the past, present, future and conditional tenses incorporated in a variety of learning strategies.

The class will meet 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays Jan. 24-March 14.

Tuition is $150 and does not include materials. The class requires two textbooks, Spanish Made Simple ($12.95) and The Oxford Picture Dictionary ($14.95), which are available in the Virtually Unlimited Bookstore at The Renaissance Center.

Class instruction will incorporate word games, peer interviews and presentations, dramatic scenarios and quizzes. Outside class assignments will provide opportunities to practice new language skills in restaurants and other venues in the Hispanic community.

“This class is an ideal place to start for anyone interested in picking up Spanish as a second language,” said Cindy Petty, Learning Lab coordinator. “With an ever-growing Hispanic population in the Middle Tennessee region, learning Spanish is becoming a valuable tool for employers, business owners and retail and service employees who deal with the public.”
