Basic computer classes scheduled
Release Date: 8/29/2001. Expired: 11/9/2001
For those individuals who don’t know how to use a computer, or are afraid of attempting to use one, The Renaissance Center has just the class for you.
The Basic Computer Workshop series can be taken Sept. 13-14 or Nov. 1-2 and is for beginners who haven’t yet gotten used to using a computer or the Windows 98 operating system, said instructor and center Webmaster Clay McKinney.
“Some of them may have never used them at all, or some may have maybe used one a little bit but not gotten really comfortable with it,” he said.
The class focuses on the basics, such as use of the mouse, opening windows, how to run more than one program at a time and how to switch between them, and how to shut down Windows.
“It’s very, very basic,” McKinney said. “It’s for people who aren’t comfortable with a computer yet. Any adult is welcome.”
That class is followed Sept. 20-21 and Nov. 8-9 by the Intermediate Computer Workshop, which focuses on the more advanced features of Windows.
“It’s a little more advanced. Anybody who takes the Basics class would be prepared for the Intermediate class. Some people who don’t need the Basics class might be interested in this class.”
The Intermediate class will include managing computer documents and other fundamentals necessary to maximize the use of the computer.
The cost for both classes is $65 each and students must have the textbook “Microsoft Windows 98 Fast & Easy” by Diane Koers, which can be purchased for $16.95 plus tax in the Virtually Unlimited Bookstore.
Classes are 6-8 p.m.
