Campers to experience new CyberSphere shows, science theatre, MET production of SNOOPY!!!

Release Date: 4/5/2007. Expired: 7/13/2007

In addition to all the outdoor fun of the Adventure Camp site, campers at Camp Renaissance in 2007 will experience new exciting shows in the CyberSphere Digital Theater, science shows in the newly remodeled Faraday Science Theatre and a wonderful production of the musical SNOOPY!!!

Now in its eighth year, Camp Renaissance is a program of The Renaissance Center, a fine arts education and performing arts center in Dickson. Camp Renaissance is open to boys and girls ages 6-14 and offers four one-week sessions of daycamp. Sessions are the weeks of June 18-22, June 25-29, July 9-13 and July 16-20. Camp tuition is $155 per camper per week.

“Camp Renaissance is a unique experience that combines traditional outdoor camp activities with the many opportunities presented by The Renaissance Center,” said Paul McCardle, camp director. “Not only do our campers enjoy swimming, archery, riflery, fishing, rappelling, rock wall climbing, caving, arts and crafts and other exciting camp activities, but they also get to see a live theatrical production, participate in a hands-on science show and experience the thrills of our state-of-the-art planetarium.”

Campers spend part of each week at The Renaissance Center where they will see the Mind Enriching Theatre series production of SNOOPY!!! The musical is based on characters from the Peanuts comic strip created by Charles Schulz and is the sequel to the Broadway hit You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

SNOOPY!!! focuses on the life of Charlie Brown’s lovable beagle with songs about his life at the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm, his flighty friend Woodstock and all of the charming characters that surround him, following them through their school day and everyday trials and tribulations.

Campers also will experience the power of the CyberSphere and its new Digistar 3 projection system, capable of producing full-dome video. The first planetarium in Tennessee equipped with the new system, the CyberSphere will take campers on exciting adventures into the outer reaches of space, inside a hurricane, through time and even inside the human body.

Moved to a brand new theatre, the Faraday Science Theatre makes science fun with shows that feature hands-on, interactive experiments using common household items to explore light, fire, sound, chemical reactions and even how airplanes fly.

“No other camp in Tennessee can offer the combination of experiences to be found at Camp Renaissance,” said McCardle. “We have campers who come back year after year and even for multiple weeks each summer.”

The Adventure Camp site features the largest swimming pool in Middle Tennessee, cave exploration, a 50-foot climbing and rappelling tower, skeet range, archery range, stocked fishing pond, low-ropes course and a 400-foot zipline.

Returning campers also have a new opportunity to save on tuition through the new referral program. Returning campers who refer a first-time, unrelated camper will receive a 20 percent discount on their camp cost. Refer five new campers and you can come to camp free.

Camp Renaissance 2007 also brings back its overnight experience on Thursdays of each week. Campers have the option of spending the night at the Adventure Camp, where they enjoy a cookout, late-night swim and other activities, as well as the excitement of sleeping inside historic Ruskin Cave.

Bus transportation is provided free to and from The Renaissance Center at 855 Highway 46 South in Dickson, and daily bus service also is offered from Red Caboose Park on Highway 70 South in Bellevue for an additional fee of $25 per week. During the fourth session of Camp Renaissance, bus service will be offered from Kingston Springs, as well.

Each camp week ends with a Parents’ Night Cookout. On Fridays, parents and families of campers are invited to the Adventure Camp site to enjoy a cookout, tour the camp and enjoy an awards program. Bus service is not offered on Friday evenings.
