New adventures and facilities await campers who attend Camp Renaissance in the summer of 2006!

A brand new 3,000-square-foot pool house has been constructed. The deck area around the pool has been enlarged. And the swimming pool has been renovated.

In addition to the tradition of fun in the first six years of Camp Renaissance, 2006 will have new adventures such as nature studies, living history re-enactments, a fishing tournament and the opportunity for an overnight stay during each of the four weeklong sessions.

Now in its seventh year, Camp Renaissance is a weeklong daycamp for boys and girls ages 6-14 offered in four sessions by The Renaissance Center. Sessions for 2006 will be June 19-23, June 26-30, July 10-14 and July 17-21.

Campers spend most of the week at the Adventure Camp located in the former Ruskin Cave resort complex while also spending part of their time at The Renaissance Center enjoying the unique educational and entertainment opportunities there.

Campers’ days are filled with swimming, rappelling, rock climbing, caving, arts and crafts, archery, riflery, skeet shooting, fishing, soap slide, volleyball, kickball, tubing and much more at the Adventure Camp site. When they visit The Renaissance Center, they get to see a live theatrical production, a CyberSphere show and a Faraday Science Theatre show, as well as participate in music activities.

Camp Renaissance also is the exclusive home of the Dream Mission space shuttle, a half-size replica of NASA’s space shuttle. Campers get to take part in a simulated satellite rescue mission in an adventure only to be found at Camp Renaissance.

“Camp Renaissance is one of the most unique camp offerings anywhere in the region,” says Paul McCardle, camp director. “Between the outdoor adventures at our campsite and the programs offered at The Renaissance Center, Camp Renaissance offers a well-rounded week of fun and educational programs that will be the highlight of every camper’s summer.”

Campers registering by Jan. 6 can enjoy Camp Renaissance 2006 at the 2005 tuition of $145 per child per week. Camp tuition will be $155 for campers registering after Jan. 6 and a late fee could be added to any camper registering after June 2, if slots are still available. A deposit of $50 and a completed pre-registration form are all that is needed to secure a camper’s desired week. The pre-registration forms are available on the Camp Renaissance web site at http://camp.rcenter.org.

For a small additional fee, campers can enjoy an overnight camp experience on the Thursday of each camp week. The overnight camp will include a bonfire and cookout, hayrides, storytelling and more. Parents can join in the fun of the overnight stay.

Each camp week ends with a Parents’ Night Cookout on Fridays where campers’ families can tour the campgrounds, enjoy a cookout and watch as awards are handed out to that week’s campers.

Camp Renaissance provides free transportation to and from The Renaissance Center and the campsite each day except for Friday afternoons. Bus transportation is available for a minimal fee from Bellevue and will be offered in other surrounding areas if enough campers register. Other Camp Renaissance bus stops could include Kingston Springs, Waverly/McEwen, East Hickman and Cunningham for any week in which at least 25 campers register.
