Camp Renaissance registering for its 4th year
Release Date: 3/31/2003. Expired: 5/1/2003
Camp Renaissance launches its fourth year of weeklong adventures for campers ages 6-14 this summer.
Four one-week day camp sessions have been planned with a maximum of 100 campers per session. Additional sessions will be added if demand exceeds availability. The sessions scheduled are the weeks of June 16, June 23, July 7 and July 14. The deadline for registration is June 2 and the camp fee is $125 per child per week.
“The mission of Camp Renaissance is to provide a safe outdoor and indoor environment where the experience rekindles the thirst for knowledge by incorporating technology, art, community living skills and great adventure opportunities,” said Doug Jackson, executive director of The Renaissance Center.
Campers spend most of the week at the center’s Adventure Camp site located at the former Ruskin Cave resort in the rolling hills along Yellow Creek in northwestern Dickson County. The camp site has the county’s largest swimming pool, a 50-foot rappelling and climbing tower, 400-foot zipline, five caves, archery range, riflery range, skeet range, fishing pond and other facilities on 27 acres.
In addition to the traditional outdoor activities, Camp Renaissance takes advantage of The Renaissance Center’s facilities with a portion of one day of each week spent enjoying visual arts, music, computer activities, the Faraday Science Theatre, the CyberSphere Digital Theatre and other activities.
“Camp Renaissance has been a tremendous success in its first three years and we don’t expect this year to be anything less,” said Jackson. “The combination of our Adventure Camp facility with the arts and technology of The Renaissance Center makes our summer camp stand out among all the offerings for children in Middle Tennessee.”
Camp Renaissance also may offer shuttle bus service to selected areas for a minimal fee. In its first three years, the camp has run shuttles to the Bellevue area. Campers begin and end each day at The Renaissance Center, 855 Highway 46 South in Dickson, with buses transporting them to and from the Adventure Camp site.
The campers must supply their own lunches each day but beverages and snacks are provided with the camp fee. Camp registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
“These camp sessions have filled up quickly in the past so we urge everyone to reserve their spot as early as possible,” Jackson said. “We have many parents who register their children for multiple sessions and some kids come every week.”
Camp fees must be paid in full before each camp session begins. Visit the Camp Renaissance Web Site for more information. To register for Camp Renaissance, contact Laura Jackson at (615)740-5533.
