Music City Baroque Ensemble to perform Fiddling Project
Release Date: 4/1/2010. Expired: 4/9/2010
The Music City Baroque Ensemble is Nashville's only professional historically informed ensemble. Through the use of period instruments, and the latest musicological findings on matters such as pitch, articulation and tempo, Nashville audiences are able to experience the world of 17th and 18th century music in its original color and passion. Music City Baroque will perform April 9th at 6pm in the Rotunda at The Renaissance Center. Tickets are $10.
The ensemble will be presenting the Fiddling Project, an interactive fiddling concert that explores the connection between Country fiddling and Baroque string playing. Bach Suites and Hoedowns are based on the dance, and use surprisingly similar ways of playing the violin (or fiddle!) And both baroque music (Handel, Vivaldi, Purcell and the rest) and country fiddlers improvise a lot.
The performance features talented musicians such as Tammy Rogers King a member of the Steel Drivers Bluegrass Group who regularly tours with Reba McEntire and Emmylou, and The Red River Fiddlers, a fantastic children’s group of fiddlers.
It will be a wonderful event - but we need good fiddlers to come out and take part. This is an opportunity for fiddlers to learn about the new baroque style that’s sweeping the classical world, and for classical players to find out how close this really is to fiddling; for professionals and students to delve deeply, and for young people and amateurs to experiment and try it out.
