Release Date: 9/19/2006. Expired: 12/11/2006

The Renaissance Center’s recital series for Fall 2006 presents a variety of performances from flute to piano, from a college choir to a boys’ choir to a handbell choir.

Sponsored by The Harp School, Inc., and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, the recital series presents free performances by professional musicians, community and school ensembles, university faculty members and accomplished students.

Nashville Philharmonic Flute Ensemble

The Nashville Philharmonic Flute Ensemble will perform in the Visual Arts Gallery at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9.

Created in January 2005, the Nashville Philharmonic Flute Ensemble gives local adult flautists a chance to continue or renew their love of music and to share their dedication to their art with others.

The ensemble plays a variety of music, everything from arrangements of classical music to more modern pieces composed for flute voices. The group is directed by Tara Rogers, a lifelong musician who is a member of The Renaissance Center’s Community Concert Band and is a former faculty member at the center.

The Nashville Philharmonic Flute Ensemble is a non-profit organization that operates solely on community contributions. For more information on the group or to find out how to become a member, contact Rogers at tjrogers71@yahoo.com.

Dr. Vicki King, pianist

Dr. Vicki King presents a piano performance in the Visual Arts Gallery at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13.

With performance and pedagogy degrees from Indiana University and University of Mississippi, the Performer’s Certificate from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and a distinguished career as performer, accompanist, author and teacher in both Europe and the United States, Dr. Vicki King brings an infectious enthusiasm and joy to her recitals.

The Rhodes Singers

Dickson is privileged to experience the voices of The Rhodes Singers, from Rhodes College in Memphis, in a performance in the center’s rotunda at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17.

This select group of voices, specializing in a capella (unaccompanied) repertoire, is led by one of America’s most outstanding choral conductors, Dr. Timothy Sharp, associate dean of Fine Arts at Rhodes.

This program will feature the music of American composer Morton Lauridsen, with whom the choir has developed a long and special relationship, including world premieres and performances in Carnegie Hall.

The Carillon Ringers

The Carillon Ringers, a handbell choir from Belmont United Methodist Church’s Music Ministry, perform in the center’s rotunda at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2.

The handbell choir plays a varied repertoire demonstrating handbell techniques using five octaves of Schulmerich handbells, six octaves of Malmark choir chimes, three octaves of Petit and Fritsen handbells.

The group performs concerts and special music with other congregations, colleges and universities as well as other venues.

The Carillon Ringers present a holiday program in the rotunda prior to the performances of Annie from the Renaissance Players and Christmas My Way in the Gaslight Dinner Theatre.

The Nashville Boychoir at Blair

The Nashville Boychoir at Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University is rapidly becoming one of the premiere groups of its kind in the country. The choir returns to the center for a 7 p.m. performance Monday, Dec. 11, in the center’s rotunda.

Under Hazel Somerville’s leadership, the choir has performed on numerous occasions with the Nashville Symphony, Boston Camerata, New College Oxford and is preparing its first tour of Germany, where it will sing in Dresden and Berlin in late December.
