Renaissance Center bands present concert, Spring Social

The Renaissance Center’s Jazz Band and Jazz Combo will be featured in the first Spring Social hosted by the center on Saturday, May 13.
The Jazz Band is joined by the center’s Community Concert Band for their annual spring concert on Tuesday, May 23.
Directed by Darin Cochran, the center’s music ensembles are free participation groups open to amateurs and skilled professionals. The groups rehearse weekly throughout the year and present annual spring and holiday concerts in the center’s Performance Hall.
The TRC Jazz Band and smaller Jazz Combo will provide the music for the first Spring Social, which is open to the public but also is a chance for the students in the center’s dance program to show off their newly honed skills.
The Spring Social is 7 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in the rotunda of The Renaissance Center. Tickets are $5 per person or $8 for couples and refreshments will be provided.
The spring concert featuring the Community Concert Band and Jazz Band is 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, in the Performance Hall. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and children under 13.
The Community Concert Band will feature music by composers such as Tichelli, Giovanini and Van der Roost. A special feature of the show will be a performance of the first movement of Mozart’s Piano Concert No. 19, featuring soloist Connie Haun accompanied by a small ensemble. Haun is an adjunct piano teacher at The Renaissance Center.
The Jazz Band will be performing many classic jazz and big band favorites.
