Release Date: 5/8/2006. Expired: 6/27/2006
Comedian and impressionist Fred Travelena has appeared on everything from The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson to Fantasy Island to The Smurfs. Called “The Man of a Thousand Faces,” Travelena brings his comedy act to The Renaissance Center June 27 where he will tape a 45-minute special performance as part of the Roger Neal and Friends Sing for MS II.
Travelena will be part of the evening concert hosted by Neal and featuring a huge lineup of Southern gospel artists. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and tickets are $20 with a limited number of Artist Circle seats for $50 that include a reception and gift bag. Money raised through the concert, DVD, CD and accompanying television special will benefit organizations battling multiple sclerosis.
During that afternoon, Travelena will videotape a special comedy show in The Renaissance Center’s Performance Hall prior to the final rehearsal for that night’s concert. Tickets for the 1 p.m. comedy show and rehearsal are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors 55 and older.
The afternoon performance will include Travelena’s show and the final dress rehearsals of the gospel music and Miracle of Christmas shows for that evening.
Travelena, who received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last year, is known for his impressions and comedy from national television appearances to headline engagements from Atlantic City to Las Vegas for over 25 years.
His television appearances include roles on Newhart, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Murphy Brown, Walker, Texas Ranger, Beverly Hills 90210, Black Scorpion, the ABC Comedy Hour and his own comedy specials, including Stand Up with Fred Travelena. He is also well known for his voice work, which includes The Smurfs, Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo and The Shirt Tales. In addition, he had a role in the movie The Buddy Holly Story.
Travelena also is an accomplished songwriter and singer, with his latest CD, The Spirit of America, written as a tribute to the events of Sept. 11, 2001, and he has entertained American troops around the world on USO tours.
In addition to taping his own comedy special, Travelena will participate in the Roger Neal and Friends Sing for MS II that evening, along with gospel music stars such as Jeff and Sheri Easter, The Hoppers, Gerald Crabb, The Perrys, Mark Lowry, Margo Smith, LaVerne Tripp, Harvest, Young Harmony and many more.
