James Gregory adds second show at Renaissance Center for March 1
Release Date: 1/25/2007. Expired: 3/1/2007
With his March 2 performance at The Renaissance Center in Dickson quickly sold out, veteran comedian James Gregory has added a second show on Thursday, March 1.
Tickets for the added 7:30 p.m. show are $25 with a limited number of VIP tickets available for $35, which includes premium seating and a copy of Gregory’s The Legend Continues CD.
“We’re very excited about the overwhelming response to James’ show at The Renaissance Center and glad that his schedule allows him to present a second performance so we can hope to meet the demand for tickets,” said Steve Hall, senior director of the center’s Multimedia Department that will videotape Gregory’s March 2 show for broadcast and release on DVD. “James’ popularity, especially in the southeast, is undeniable and we expect both shows to be packed full of laughs.”
Hailed by critics as “the funniest man in America,” Georgia native Gregory has been entertaining millions of people each year for more than two decades. He tours 48 weeks of the year, performing in sold-out theatres, fairs, comedy clubs and for some of the country’s largest corporations and organizations. He is heard regularly on a variety of syndicated radio shows that reach into more than 250 markets.
He has recorded four comedy CDs (James Gregory Live, It Could Be a Law… I Don’t Know, The Legend Continues and Grease, Gravy and John Wayne’s Momma) and three previous DVDs. His numerous television appearances include Entertainment Tonight, Comedy Central, Showtime, TNT and more than 80 appearances on what was once TNN.
Gregory’s comedy career began innocently enough when friends convinced him to participate in an open mic night at an Atlanta comedy club in 1982. His homespun stories made him an instant hit.
“I don’t do small-town humor,” Gregory replies to those who try to pigeonhole his appeal. His is a front porch humor: he tells the stories we all know, wherever we’re from. He makes fun of crazy family members and covered dishes at funerals. Ignoring the pressure to be politically correct, Gregory zings everyone from health fanatics to animal rights activists with his trademark observations of the routine and absurd based on the values he grew up with.
Eschewing the profanity and vulgarity of many modern comics, listening to Gregory’s carefully crafted stories is similar to hearing every family’s crazy uncle telling tales on relatives at a family reunion.
“I have lived long enough to know people, know life,” Gregory says. “My comedy is based on my experience. I want to make the whole country laugh.”
