Belmont Women’s Choir, TRC students complete 2003-04 rotunda recitals

The Belmont University women’s Choir and The Renaissance Center’s own advanced music students will wrap up the 2003-04 Recitals in the Rotunda series at The Renaissance Center in May.

The free performances in the center’s rotunda are at 7 p.m. every other Monday and features professional musicians, staff from area universities and accomplished students in a variety of musical performances.

The Belmont University Women’s Choir will perform at 7 p.m. Monday, May 3.

Directed by Dr. Jane Warren, the choir is an open participation performing ensemble featuring students from the Nashville university. Their performance at The Renaissance Center promises a night of phenomenal voices singing a variety of rarely heard gems.

Warren is an adjunct instructor of Music at Belmont University School of Music and conducts both the Women’s Choir and the vocal chamber group, Session. She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts from Samford University in Alabama and has two Master’s degrees: a Master of Music (Choral Conducting) from Southern Methodist University and a Master of Music (Music History) from Furman University. She has studied with several renowned conductors and pedagogues including Robert Shaw, David Willcocks, John Rutter, Percy Young and Philip Brunelle.

The Recitals in the Rotunda series concludes May 17 with a performance featuring several advanced music students from The Renaissance Center. The recital features students who have prepared for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music examinations.

An ABRSM examiner visits The Renaissance Center twice a year to offer testing and critiques for students wanting to have their skill levels assessed against an international standard. Students can advance to higher grade levels each year and be eligible for scholarships to universities and conservatories throughout the world.

Performances will include voice, piano, harp and other instruments.
