Blair Boychoir, Union Jazz Band slated for April Recitals at Renaissance Center

Release Date: 3/15/2004. Expired: 4/19/2004

April’s Recitals in the Rotunda at The Renaissance Center present two very different performances.

The Boychoir of Nashville at Blair performs April 5 while the Union University Jazz Band plays April 19.

Recitals in the Rotunda is a series of free concerts at 7 p.m. every other Monday in the rotunda of The Renaissance Center. The performances feature professional musicians, faculty and accomplished students from area universities and various choral groups from the area. The recitals are videotaped by the center’s award-winning Multimedia Department for broadcast on the Renaissance Channel.

The Boychoir of Nashville is the newest vocal ensemble presented by the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University. Directed by Hazel Somerville, it is open to boys in grades three and up from all over Middle Tennessee. Boys in this dynamic group enjoy exploring their vocal talents and learning how to read music together. They perform several times each semester at civic events, basketball games and at Blair.

The Union University Jazz Band is a traditional big band-style jazz ensemble composed of music and non-music majors from the school in Jackson. It performs literature from the entire history of jazz, from Dixieland, traditional swing and Cuban and Latin styles through contemporary jazz-rock fusion.
