Dorfman-Katahn to Grace Stage at The Renaissance Center

Release Date: 8/22/2001. Expired: 9/17/2001

Their music style and live performances have been described by critics as “unforgettable,” “great artistry,” “riveting” and “fun.”

Duo pianists Amy Dorfman and Enid Katahn will thrill and entertain their audience with animated intensity and exquisite precision Monday evening, Sept. 17, in a return visit to The Renaissance Center.

These two extremely talented Nashville-based piano virtuosos teamed up in 1990 for their debut album “A Night To Remember.” From the acclaim the effort received it was evident that they are shining stars and their partnership is a powerful force in their genre.

Amy Dorfman is an artist with formidable technique and yet she possesses the ability to be “poised and sensitive.” Her dynamic career has included annual recitals at the Nordhessen Fest in Germany since 1986, and she has been guest artist at such prestigious festivals as the Sedona Music Festival and the Northwest Chamber Music Festival in Oregon. Longtime accompanist of the celebrated bassist, Edgar Meyer, Dorfman has joined Meyer in broadcasts on National Public Radio’s “St. Paul Sunday” and in recitals from San Francisco to New York City.

She is the recipient of the Individual Artist Award from the Tennessee Arts Commission and has collaborated with the Tennessee Dance Theater and the Blair String Quartet. She is currently assistant professor of Music at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music.

Enid Katahn’s Wigmore Hall recitals received critical acclaim as “unforgettable music-making by a consummate artist.” In demand for lectures and master classes as well as recitals in the United States and abroad, Katahn has also recorded for the BBC and appears regularly on radio and public television. Her series of CDs featuring the piano works of French composers Pierre Max Dubois, Cecile Chaminade, and Albert Roussel has garnered much critical acclaim, as has her CD of Carl Nielsen’s music.

Investigation into historical tunings with piano technician Edward Foote yielded “Beethoven in the Temperaments,” a CD of Beethoven sonatas in two different tunings common in the composer’s day.

Katahn is professor of Piano at the Blair School of Music.

The Dorfman and Katahn Duo unites two powerful musical personalities who light up the stage with great artistry and great entertainment.

The duo will be in concert in Performance Hall at The Renaissance Center at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17. Tickets are $10 adults, $8 senior citizens and $5 children under 13. Admission is free for students currently enrolled in private music instruction classes at The Renaissance Center.
