Solid Gospel series brings Dove Brothers to Renaissance Center Aug. 19
Release Date: 7/28/2004. Expired: 8/19/2004
The Dove Brothers bring their Quartet Legacy Tour to The Renaissance Center Aug. 19 as part of the Solid Gospel 105-FM concert series.
Tickets for the 7 p.m. show are $14.
With two top five singles and multiple awards after their first four albums, the Dove Brothers are often referred to as an overnight success in the Gospel music industry. But the group’s musical journey began in a small town in southern North Carolina when McCray and Eric Dove began singing as a duet.
Singing together has been a dream come true for the two young men who grew up together, played together and attended school together.
For the Dove Brothers, singing is a family affair even though only two members of the group are blood relatives. Jerry Martin and David Hester are lifetime friends, which enables the group to easily perform as a team.
When I Move to Hallelujah Square, the first single from the Dove Brothers’ debut album, Pure Tradition, reached top five and top 20 status in both the U.S. Gospel News and the Singing News, respectively. Get Away Jordan, the second single, reached number one on the Gospel Voice chart and top 20 on other charts.
The Dove Brothers won Horizon Group of the Year in 1999 from the Singing News Fan Awards, a Sunrise Award from the Gospel Voice Diamond Awards in 1999, an Angel Award in 1999, New Artist of the Year from the Southern Gospel Music Association in 2000 and the Voice of the Gospel Impact Award from the Gospel Voice Diamond Awards in 2000.
McCray Dove, the group’s lead singer, sang with The Dixie Melody Boys prior to organizing the Dove Brothers. He began singing with his family at age four and went on to sing part-time with quartets as a teen-ager.
Eric Dove sings baritone for the group. Although the group is fairly young, Eric’s smooth style of singing is compared to the lines of Ed Hill and Doy Ott.
Jerry Martin sings tenor after spending five years with the Kingsmen Quartet. He was inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2000 as part of that group.
David Hester sings bass, which he began when he was 16 years old. He performed with The Countrymen and Serenaders on a part-time basis for 16 years.
Andrew Smith attends the vocal section using piano, keyboards and tracks, managing to keep the traditional piano sound up front while adding in various instruments and background music. He was voted 2003 Horizon Individual by the Singing News.
The Dove Brothers’ high-energy presentation and progressive arrangements reflect a tangible link to the good old days of gospel music.
