Solid Gospel concert series continues with Gold City November 7

Over the past 20 years, Gold City has released 30 gospel albums and received numerous awards on its way to being recognized as one of the top Southern Gospel groups in the world.
The seven-member group was named Group of the Year in 2000 and 2001 in the Singing News Fan Awards as well as Group of the Year from the Southern Gospel Music Association in 2001. Individual members picked up four vocalist of the year awards from Singing News for the last two years also.
Presented as part of the Solid Gospel 105-FM concert series, Gold City comes to the Performance Hall of The Renaissance Center at 7 p.m. Nov. 7. Tickets are $12.
Tim Riley (bass vocalist) was voted favorite bass singer by readers of the Singing News in 1988, 2000 and 2001 and also received the Marvin Norcross award in 1996. The Gadsden, Ala., native began singing in his childhood church where his father was the minister of music. In 1966 he joined the Dixie Echoes before serving as a medic in Vietnam. He rejoined the Dixie Echoes after his service, then formed a group called The Southmen in 1974. He started with Gold City in 1980.
Jay Parrack (tenor vocalist) was voted Horizon Individual in 1994, favorite young artist in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999 and favorite tenor in 2000 and 2001 by readers of Singing News. He served as a minister of music at three different churches before joining Gold City in 1994. His father, Johnny, sang for years with the Kingsmen.
Daniel Riley (baritone vocalist) began singing in his Glencoe, Ala., church at the age of five. Not only can his vocals be heard with the group, but Riley also has served as recording engineer on most of the group’s albums and currently runs Goldmine Recording Studio in Gadsden.
Jonathan Wilburn (lead vocalist) was voted favorite lead singer in 2000 and 2001 by readers of Singing News. After 16 years of singing with his family, The Wilburns, he joined Gold City in 1996. The Carthage, Tenn., native had always wanted to sing with a male quartet.
Gold City’s band was voted Southern Gospel Music’s favorite band in 1998 and 2000 by Singing News. It includes drummer Doug Riley, who joined the band immediately after graduating high school in 1989, bass guitarist Adam Borden, who joined in 1995 after playing with The Singing Ambassadors while in college, and pianist Channing Eleton, who joined in 2000 after four years playing for Poet Voices.
