Readers of The Singing News, the top magazine devoted to Southern Gospel music, have voted Karen Peck as Favorite Soprano an unprecedented 11 consecutive times. She was named the Female Vocalist of the Year by the Southern Gospel Music Association in 2002.
Four Days Late, the third number one single from Karen Peck and New River, was named Song of the Year in 2001 by both The Singing News and SGMA.
Karen Peck and New River return to The Renaissance Center in Dickson as part of the popular Solid Gospel 105-FM concert series Jan. 22. Tickets for the 7 p.m. concert in the Performance Hall are $14. The group’s March 2001 concert in Dickson was a sell-out.
Since 1991, Karen Peck and New River has firmly established its place at the forefront of Southern Gospel music. With appearances on stages at Opryland, Dollywood and Six Flags Over Georgia, as well as television appearances on TBN’s Praise The Lord, the Grand Ole Opry Live and the Gaither Gospel Hour, New River has set a standard for musical perfection with rich vocal harmony soaring over a solid instrumental foundation.
The group has received many individual and group honors with numerous fan and industry nominations. Hits such as Four Days Late, God Likes to Work and When Jesus Passes By have hit number one on the gospel charts while several others have reached the top 40.
Their latest record, For His Glory, released by Spring Hill Music Group, is sure to produce even more radio airplay.
“We feel like the songs on this recording represent where we’ve been personally and with the ministry as a whole,” Peck says. “This recording conveys the importance of complete trust in the Lord. Regardless of our wants and desires, God is always taking care of what’s best for us. Even when we feel like He’s late, He’s always right on time. We believe this project will be an encouragement and offer hope to all believers.”
Karen and her sisters, Susan and Sandra, often accompanied their parents to all-night gospel sings in Atlanta while growing up. One of the groups often featured was The LeFevres, who later became known as The Nelsons, and Karen recalls that she had aspirations of someday singing with the group.
She got her chance in 1981 when she was invited to travel with The Nelsons. She remained with the group for 10 years, gaining the respect of industry peers and fans alike with her exceptional vocal ability and caring personality.
Karen realized another dream in 1991 when she and Susan, along with Susan’s husband Ricky, organized the new group Karen Peck and New River. Today, Karen and Susan are joined vocally by Jason Jackson, who previously sang with Truth.
Karen Peck and New River has recorded 13 albums in the last decade in addition to a solo effort released by Karen.
