Little River Band comes to Renaissance Center stage Sept. 9-10
Release Date: 8/12/2002. Expired: 9/10/2002
For more than 25 years, the Little River Band has been a staple on the pop and adult contemporary airwaves as the standard for soaring vocal harmonies. The Australian band, known for hits such as “Lonesome Loser,” “Lady,” “Cool Change” and “Reminiscing,” will take to the stage of The Renaissance Center for two concerts Sept. 9 and 10.
Both of the 8 p.m. concerts will be videotaped by the center’s Multimedia Department to be released on VHS and DVD, as well as for possible airing on television.
Each show includes a limited number of $75 tickets, which will include a buffet dinner with members of Little River Band, autographed copies of their two latest CDs and premium seats to the concert. General admission tickets for the concerts only will be $25 apiece.
The concerts also will benefit Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art in Nashville. Art Partner Packages are available to Cheekwood members with a portion of the price of each ticket donated to Cheekwood, while remaining proceeds will go to The Renaissance Center projects and a children’s charity to be designated by Little River Band.
“With the success of our Three Dog Night concert video, we want to continue bringing quality events to Middle Tennessee,” said Doug Jackson, executive director of The Renaissance Center. “Little River Band will bring a wonderful show to our stage and we plan to produce another high quality concert video that music fans everywhere can cherish. This is just the latest show in our continuing effort to bring world-class musical and theatrical productions to this area.”
Formed in 1975 in Melbourne, Australia, Little River Band is celebrating 27 years of making music that has included 10 Top Ten hits in the United States from their 14 albums with total sales exceeding 25 million units.
Little River Band’s international success paved the way for other Australian acts to invade the United States airwaves, including AC/DC, Air Supply, Men At Work and INXS.
Little River Band has charted hits such as “Reminiscing,” “Help is on Its Way,” “Lady,” “Cool Change,” “Happy Anniversary,” “Man on Your Mind,” “Lonesome Loser,” “Take It Easy on Me,” “Night Owls” and “The Other Guy” during its 27-year history.
“Little River Band is a perfect act for the Performance Hall of The Renaissance Center,” said Multimedia Department Senior Director Steve Hall. “The intimacy and acoustics of our theatre were built for music acts that present quality vocal stylings emphasizing harmony. With no seat more than 50 feet from the front of the stage, concert-goers will be able to enjoy every note from a band known around the world for its harmonic blends.”
The Performance Hall has already been host to artists such as Three Dog Night, Vince Gill, Kathy Mattea, Riders in the Sky, The Kinleys and other performers known for making harmonies a part of their attraction.
“The Renaissance Center and Cheekwood share common educational and cultural goals,” said Hall. “We are proud to work together with Cheekwood to bring new cultural opportunities to the Middle Tennessee community. The Little River Band provides us a chance to present two evenings of quality entertainment while also benefiting the educational missions of both facilities.”
Tickets can be purchased at The Renaissance Center or by calling (615)740-5570. Cheekwood members should mention their membership at the time of purchase in order to ensure credit for the benefit.
Limited to 100 tickets for each night, the Art Partner Package is $75 and in addition to the concert ticket includes a pre-concert dinner with the band at 7 p.m. and autographed copies of Little River Band’s CDs “One Night in Mississippi” and “Where We Started From.” Remaining tickets are $25.
