Renaissance Center to host 3-day Sing-o de Mayo music festival

“Sing-o de Mayo” is the first ever community music festival being presented by The Renaissance Center. Special musical performances will take place May 3-5 with most being free to the public.
The festival atmosphere will be magnified by musical artisans and crafts people selling their creations in booths around the Rotunda.
“We’re bringing in a variety of musical styles to showcase in our first music festival,” said Elaine Sherrill, senior director of music. “From bagpipes to bluegrass, from jazz to dulcimers, Sing-o de Mayo will be a truly eclectic celebration.”
The schedule for Saturday, May 3, is:
2 p.m. - The Renaissance Center Community Jazz Band in the Performance Hall;
2:30 p.m. - Glenn Woodland, three-time national champion harmonica player, in the Rotunda;
2:45 p.m. - Three Rivers Dulcimer Association in the Performance Hall;
3:15 p.m. - Miss Amy’s Irish Dancers in the Rotunda;
3:30 p.m. - Todd Boswell, bagpipe player with the Nashville Pipes and Drums, in the Rotunda;
3:45 p.m. - Singers/songwriters Templeton Thompson and Sam Gay in the Performance Hall;
4:15 p.m. - Sarah Elisabeth, solo dulcimer player, in the Rotunda;
4:30 p.m. - Scott Miller, hammered dulcimer player, in the Rotunda, and;
4:45 p.m. - Karl Littleton bluegrass group in the Performance Hall.
Craftsman displaying their works in the rotunda include Floyd Nickle, dulcimer maker, and Parrie Ellen Nickle, crafts and musical jewelry.
Sunday, May 4, brings a special concert featuring The Time Jumpers, a Nashville band recently named Western Swing Band of the Year. The 2 p.m. concert also has special guests The Cantrells, an acoustic folk and swing duo. Tickets for the Sunday concert in the Performance Hall are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for children under 13.
The festival concludes Monday, May 5, at 7 p.m. with the free Recitals in the Rotunda series featuring the Harpeth Valley Sacred Harp Singers.

The Renaissance Center is an arts and technology education and performing arts center at 855 Highway 46 South in Dickson, just 35 miles west of Nashville on Interstate 40 at exit 172.
