SPACECRAFT
Release Date: 12/1/2000. Expired: 12/9/2000
The unique power and excitement of the CyberSphere at The Renaissance Center in Dickson will be combined with a live musical performance when the group SPACECRAFT returns Dec. 9, 2000.
Known for its ambient electronic music concerts, commonly referred to as “space music,” SPACECRAFT was the first live musical performance ever to be held in the CyberSphere when the three-member group appeared in May.
The groups album “Earthtime Tapestry” was voted Electronic Album of the Year for 1999 by New Age magazine and its second release, “Hummel,” received a critics choice review in Billboard.
“The SPACECRAFT show in the CyberSphere last spring was a unique experience and next months show promises to be even better,” said CyberSphere Director Kevin Scott. “The combination of live music and the digital video, Digistar effects and lasers of the CyberSphere presents a show that cannot be seen anywhere else.”
The CyberSphere is a four-story domed theatre featuring the worlds first 360-degree laser projector, Omniscan. The Digistar II projects three-dimensional images that can take the viewer anywhere in the universe along with multiple video projectors and 14,000 watts of amplified digital sound.
The CyberSphere recently completed a run of sold-out shows for Halloween and this month debuts two new laser shows: “Laser Mania” and “Laser Zeppelin”.
“Combining all our special effects with a live musical performance guarantees to present a concert unlike any you will ever see,” Scott said.
SPACECRAFT includes Tony Gerber of Nashville and John Rose and Diane Timmons of Lexington. The group has performed on NPRs “Echoes” with John Dilberto for over two years and last spring released its latest album, “American Symphony.” It has performed concerts at The Parthenon as well as shows at planetariums and universities around the country.
Digital artist Dave Turner is also performing with the group, presenting his unique computer animations and digital art as part of the visual effects of the concert. Turners art was recently featured in a showing at Sunset Grille in Nashville.
The SPACECRAFT concert at The CyberSphere will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 13.
The concert will preempt the scheduled 7 p.m. showing of “Season of Light”, a planetarium show about the origins of holiday observations around the world. That nights shows of “Laser Holidays” at 8 p.m. and “Laser Zeppelin” at 9 p.m. will be presented at their scheduled times. “Season of Light” shows at 7 p.m. Fridays and 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturdays beginning Nov. 24.
“Laser Mania” is a family show featuring the music of Santana, Shania Twain, Sting, Celine Dion, Ricky Martin and more with spectacular new laser effects. “Laser Zeppelin” features the music of one of the worlds most enduring rock bands, Led Zeppelin, with popular hits such as “Immigrant Song,” “Rock and Roll,” “Whole Lotta Love” and the anthem “Stairway to Heaven” in digital sound with laser effects.
