Solid Gospel presents The Steeles, Tony Gore and The Hoppers in back-to-back concerts
Release Date: 9/8/2004. Expired: 10/1/2004
The Sept. 30 concert featuring The Steeles and Tony Gore has been added to an Oct. 1 concert featuring The Hoppers to create a Solid Gospel Weekend in the Performance Hall of The Renaissance Center.
Solid Gospel 105-FM made the recent addition of the second night’s performance and joined the two shows into one package. Tickets to both nights are $19. Single-show tickets are not available. Shows start at 7 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday night.
Jeff and Sherry Steele form the foundation of The Steeles, a group that has produced three number-one singles and had a song in the top 20 every month for more than two years. They are joined on stage by former Wilburns member Troy Peach and former Perry Sisters and Ruppes member Karen Akemon. Jeff and Sherry’s children, Christy, Kayla and Bradley, are also part of the group and have become fan favorites.
Clanton, Ala., native Tony Gore began performing with The Southmen, a regional group based out of Birmingham. He then joined The Wilburns for nine years then in 1993 he formed Tony Gore and Majesty and they began touring the following year. In April 2002, Gore went a new direction as a solo artist.
The Hoppers have been making music for more than three decades but didn’t score their first number-one hit until 1990’s Here I Am, which was named Song of the Year. They followed that with four more chart-topping releases and their album Great Day received two Dove Award nominations in 2004.
The group tours regularly with the Gaither Homecoming Tour and performed at Ronald Reagan’s 1981 inauguration ceremony.
Founder Claude Hopper and wife Connie are joined on stage by oldest son Dean, a former drummer who is now the group’s lead vocalist, his wife Kim, youngest son Mike, now the group’s drummer, and his wife Denice, the group’s pianist.
The Hoppers concert on Oct. 1 will be videotaped by The Renaissance Center’s award-winning Multimedia Department for possible release on video and DVD.
