Rotunda recital series presents Ted Wiley and Charlene Harb April 7

The Renaissance Center’s Recitals in the Rotunda concert series presents a recital Monday, April 7, featuring two of Nashville’s best-loved classical musicians. Tenor Ted Wylie and pianist Charlene Harb will present a delightful program of songs by Italian and American composers, including selections by Aaron Copland, William Grant Still, Charles Ives and Francesco Tosti. The 7 p.m. program, which will be videotaped for broadcast, is free and open to the public.
Tenor is professor of Music on the faculty of Belmont University School of Music. In addition to teaching voice, vocal diction and literature, Dr. Wylie is coordinator for International Programs. Following the completion of undergraduate study at Oklahoma Baptist University, he completed both the Master and Doctor of Music degrees at Indiana University. Wylie is an enthusiastic traveler, with numerous trips for study and coordination of the international studies programs at The Russian Academy of Music in Moscow and Hochschule fur Musik Dresden, Karl Maria von Weber.
Dr. Charlene Harb is professor of Piano at Middle Tennessee State University and principal keyboardist with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. In addition, she is on the faculty of the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, and has served on the faculty of the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, and Studio Lirico in Cortona, Italy. Previous appointments in this country include the Blair School of Music and Scarritt Graduate School. She holds the D.M. degree from Indiana University, with further study at the Aspen School, Cornell University, and at the Schubert Institute in Baden bei Wien, Austria. She was a recipient of a Touring Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and has been a chair of the Music Advisory Panel of the Tennessee Arts Commission.
Carol McClure, host and program director for the Recitals in the Rotunda series, expressed a particular enthusiasm for this concert, noting, “It is especially gratifying to present two performers who represent the highest level of artistry, and who have made such valuable contributions to the region through both their performing and teaching. They bring an infectious enthusiasm and impressive level of professional accomplishment to all their performances, both at home and around the world. We are honored to have them, and I urge everyone who loves great singing and great songs to be in attendance.”
The Renaissance Center’s Recitals in the Rotunda series presents professional musicians, faculty and accomplished students from area universities in free concerts in the center’s rotunda every other Monday. For more information, call (615)740-5545.
