CyberSphere continues rock legend investigation with Dark Side of Oz Part II in August
Release Date: 7/28/2005. Expired: 8/27/2005
The CyberSphere Digital Theater’s investigation of a rock and roll legend continues in August with The Dark Side of Oz Part II.
The program combines the classic MGM movie The Wizard of Oz with Pink Floyd’s multi-platinum album Dark Side of the Moon along with spectacular laser effects in the state-of-the-art CyberSphere at The Renaissance Center in Dickson. A longtime legend in rock and roll claims that the British supergroup’s album is synchronized to moments in the 1939 movie based on a book by L. Frank Baum.
The Dark Side of Oz Part II shows at 9 p.m. Saturdays in August and tickets are $6.
“To fully investigate this rock and roll legend, you have to play the entire Dark Side of the Moon album two and a half times to get all the way through the movie,” said Joe Wyatt, assistant director of the CyberSphere and creator of The Dark Side of Oz. “Through July we have shown Part I, which plays the album through one time and takes the movie to the point where Dorothy and the Scarecrow encounter the Tin Man in the woods on their way to the Emerald City. In Part II, we pick up at that point in the movie and go all the way through Dark Side of the Moon again.”
The Dark Side of Oz Part I has proven to be one of the more popular CyberSphere shows since it debuted last year in conjunction with the Renaissance Players community theatre production of The Wizard of Oz. With Part II, viewers can now judge for themselves whether there truly is a connection between one of the most beloved movies of all time and one of the top-selling albums of all time with more than 35 million copies sold since 1973.
In addition to The Dark Side of Oz Part II, the August schedule for the CyberSphere includes The Explorers, a planetarium show at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Spirit of America, a patriotic laser show. Tickets for The Explorers are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and children under 13, while tickets for Spirit of America are $6 for all seats.
