New Laser Country show debuts in CyberSphere at Renaissance Center
Release Date: 1/21/2003. Expired: 2/28/2003
The top superstars of country music are featured in the new Laser Country show in the CyberSphere Digital Theatre at The Renaissance Center in Dickson.
Laser Country shows at 3 p.m. Saturdays through February. Admission is $6.
“We’ve had tremendous demand for an all-country music show. A few country artists have been included in some of our other shows, such as Shania Twain and the Charlie Daniels Band, but this is our first show devoted totally to country music,” said Ron Stinson, director of the CyberSphere. “Laser Country features most of the biggest names in country music.”
Artists included in Laser Country include George Strait, Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Brooks and Dunn, Patty Loveless, Alan Jackson, Shania Twain and more.
The music, played in the CyberSphere’s 14,000-watt digital surround sound system, is enhanced by the theatre’s spectacular laser effects from the Omniscan 360-degree laser projector as well as computer generated graphics from the DigiStar II projector and more than a dozen slide and video projectors.
“Even if you have seen a laser show somewhere else, you have not seen our laser shows,” said Joe Wyatt, assistant director of the CyberSphere. “With the combination of technology we have available, we make our laser shows extra special by adding effects that no other venue can do.”
In addition to Laser Country, the weekend schedule in the CyberSphere through February includes Laser Vinyl at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and Hypnotica at 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
Laser Vinyl is a flashback to classic album rock of the 1970s with music from AC/DC, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Van Halen, Aerosmith, KISS, Boston, Journey, Queen and Pink Floyd.
“You haven’t enjoyed Bohemian Rhapsody until you’ve seen it in the CyberSphere,” said Stinson.
Hypnotica’s techno-rock lineup includes Fat Boy Slim, Crystal Method, Faithless, Prodigy, Bjork, Delirium and the Chemical Brothers. Rated PG, Hypnotica is not recommended for younger viewers.
Admission to all laser shows is $6.
The planetarium show for January and February is Journey to Infinity, which plays 7 p.m. Fridays and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturdays.
The show includes a fantastic tour through the solar system to look at some of the more wonderful sights in the universe.
“Amazing 3D computer graphics, our full-dome laser system and digital surround sound make for an incredible adventure,” said Wyatt.
Admission for Journey to Infinity is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and children.
Coming in March will be a new show featuring the new wave music of Enya as well as top music from the 1980s in Laser Retro and the return of Laser U2.
