DEI team investigates Kelly house in new episode airing July 31

Release Date: 7/23/2003. Expired: 7/31/2003

For several years, an aging and seemingly benign house has rested on a plot of wooded farmland near the Dickson and Hickman county line. Local residents refer to it as “the Kelly house.”

The Dark Encounters Investigated paranormal team refers to it as one of their strangest cases yet.

Dark Encounters Investigated is the popular “docu-fictional” show produced by The Renaissance Center’s award-winning Multimedia Department for the Renaissance Channel. The program bases its “investigations” on area legends and folklore.

The Dark Encounters team, headed by Dr. Nathan Swane (Brad Diamond), ventured into the long-abandoned “Kelly house” for its newest episode after hearing local resident Cory Williams’ tale of strange and possibly cult-related activities at the home during his teen years.

Williams came to the Dark Encounters team with a story of when he and friends visited the house and found signs of suspicious activity and then encountered an unknown presence in the home’s attic.

When the Dark Encounters team visited the Kelly house, what it came out with - or rather, ran out with - is a chilling videotaped account that becomes the latest episode of Dark Encounters Investigated, premiering at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 31, and running through August.

“Some Dickson County residents claim that the Kelly house was long ago the home of a family named Kelly, one member of which was involved in a cult,” said Swane. “There are also claims of the decaying, abandoned home being the site of bizarre, cult-like activities in the 1970s and ‘80s. And if that isn’t creepy enough, there have been claims that the house is inhabited by manifestations - particularly something in the attic.”

These are just some of allegations and area legends that drew the Dark Encounters team to investigate this Dickson County phenomenon.

But when the team took its high-tech equipment into the ramshackle building, it wasn’t the equipment that began to detect anything suspicious.

Team paranormalist Luna Divynne (Sandra Harris) is the first to detect something out of the ordinary and retreats to the safety of the team’s van in a daze. Not long after that, EMF Analyst Jake Manley (David VanHooser) is overcome by the presence.

When Swane and Data Analyst J.C. Huerr (Craig Anderson) try to check out the attic, the entire team is sent running for its lives by an encounter that leaves more questions than answers.

See for yourself what the team found when DEI: The Kelly House premiers at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 31, on the Renaissance Channel (local cable channel 19). Dark Encounters Investigated also airs at 12:30 p.m. Saturdays and 6:30 p.m. Sundays.
