Halloween, Thanksgiving themes for next dance parties at Renaissance Center
Release Date: 10/9/2008. Expired: 11/8/2008
Get your Halloween costumes ready early and then plan on coming out to “shake your tail feathers” for Thanksgiving as The Renaissance Center’s Dance Department presents its monthly Dance Party in October and November.
Dance instructors Davileen McNeely and Matt Stewart and deejay Steve Overton turn the rotunda of The Renaissance Center into a Dance Party one Saturday each month. A quick instructional session is held 6-6:45 p.m. and the dancing starts at 7 p.m. The fee for the instructional session is $5 and admission to the dance is $5.
The October Dance Party is set with a Halloween theme and will be Saturday, Oct. 18. Dancers are urged to come dressed in their Halloween costumes and enjoy some special dance treats.
The theme for the November Dance Party is Shake Your Tail Feathers for Thanksgiving based on the Ray Charles hit featured in the movie The Blues Brothers and is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8.
While McNeely and Stewart are ballroom dance instructors at The Renaissance Center, they want everyone to know that the Dance Party is not just for dance students at the center and is not strictly limited to ballroom-style dancing.
“We have a little bit of everything,” McNeely said. “There are refreshments and lots of fun times.”
Deejay Overton provides a wide variety of music styles, some perfect for a little swing, cha cha, salsa or other ballroom styles. But there is also plenty of music more in tune with line dancing, disco and even some hip-hop.
The Dance Party is open to everyone, not just students. And you don’t have to take the pre-party instructional session.
“The instructional sessions are for those people who want to get a taste of the dance classes we have at The Renaissance Center and also for anyone who just wants to pick up a few things before joining in the Dance Party,” said McNeely. “If you are new to dancing or need a venue to enjoy the skills you already have, these Dance Parties will keep you on your toes.”
“We just want it to be a fun, family friendly place for people to come out and dance each month,” said Stewart. “Davileen and I are out there on the dance floor not only enjoying the evening but also to offer tips and pointers to anyone who wants them.”
McNeely and Stewart offer a variety of ballroom dance classes at The Renaissance Center as well as private instruction for individuals and couples.
