Renaissance Center adds private ballroom dance lessons for summer
Release Date: 4/26/2006. Expired: 6/5/2006
The Renaissance Center will begin offering private ballroom dancing instruction this summer in addition to its group classes.
Davileen McNeely, a dance instructor at The Renaissance Center, will be offering private instruction for solo students and couples in salsa, cha-cha, rumba, waltz, swing and other ballroom dance styles in the center’s dance studio.
The cost is $70 per person for a 50-minute lesson. Lesson times are flexible and can be scheduled at the student’s desired frequency.
“Davileen is a wonderful dance instructor who is a charter member of the dance program we started last fall,” said Pacer Harp, dance program coordinator at The Renaissance Center. “The beauty of this arrangement is that the student can schedule as many lessons as he or she wants and gets the personal, one-on-one attention of the instructor. If you want to brush up on your steps before an event or competition, you can schedule more frequent classes. But if you want to take it slower, you have that option, too. There is no limit on classes and no commitment to certain dates or number of classes.”
McNeely is a professional dance instructor who provides instruction in a variety of dance forms, including classical and contemporary partnership, jazz, modern and ballroom.
“Davileen was our first ballroom instructor when we created the new program. We originally planned to offer just a few workshops in ballroom dancing, but response was so overwhelming we added full semester classes and they filled up quickly,” said Harp. “We are excited to add private lessons to the growing dance program at The Renaissance Center.”
To schedule private dance instruction, call Bob Kucher, senior director of fine arts, at (615)740-5565. Private lessons are available beginning June 5 with the center’s summer semester.
McNeely is part of a dance program at The Renaissance Center that has been growing tremendously since being introduced last fall. More than 15 new classes were added to the spring semester and Harp said he expects that expansion to continue.
The Renaissance Center currently offers classes for children and adults, beginners and advanced dancers. Instruction is available in creative movement, creative dance, pre-ballet, beginning ballet, intermediate ballet, advanced ballet, beginning tap, intermediate/advanced tap, intermediate/advanced jazz, modern dance/lyrical, teen ballroom, teen swing, adult beginning ballet, adult beginning ballroom, adult intermediate ballroom, beginning cha-cha, salsa and swing and adult swing.
Dance students at the center will have the chance to perform in the program’s first dance recital at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13. That same day, students will have the opportunity to dance the night away in the center’s first Spring Social in the rotunda, featuring The Renaissance Center’s Jazz Combo. Tickets are $5 for singles and $8 for couples and refreshments will be provided.
