2006 Christmas Festival

The Renaissance Center’s Christmas Festival on Dec. 9 will be a full day of special activities designed to be a holiday treat for busy parents, shoppers and kids alike.

From the holiday-themed CyberSphere shows to a pottery and art sale, from the popular Children’s Christmas Workshop to a Children’s Choir performance, from Pinocchio to Frank Sinatra to Annie, the day literally has something for everyone.

“Dec. 9 will be one of the most fun-packed days we’ve ever had since The Renaissance Center opened in 1999,” said Bob Kucher, senior director of Fine Arts. “We’ll have two brand new art exhibits opening, three different theatrical productions, three holiday-themed CyberSphere shows, a free concert from our Children’s Choir, our children’s workshop and our 5th annual Pottery and Art Sale.”

At the center of it all will be The Renaissance Center’s traditional holiday decorations including the spectacular 25-foot decorated tree in the rotunda.

The schedule of activities for the Dec. 9 Christmas Festival includes:

9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.

The 8th annual Little Masters Art Exhibit opens in the Visual Arts Gallery. This annual themed show features art created by Dickson County students. A special Student Art Exhibit in the North Wing Gallery will display works from students of all ages in The Renaissance Center’s art classes. Both exhibits are free and will celebrate with an opening reception later in the day.

12:00-8:00 p.m.

The 5th annual Pottery and Art Sale in the rotunda offers great deals on unique gift ideas. There will be a large variety of clay projects, stained glass pieces, paintings and photography for sale.

1:00-2:00 p.m.

The Mind Enriching Theatre series presents Pinocchio in the Performance Hall. Old Italy comes to life in this acclaimed musical adaptation of the classic tale of the wooden puppet who yearns to become a real boy. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and children under 13.

1:00-4:00 p.m.

The 7th annual Children’s Christmas Workshop offers an afternoon of creative fun for children of all ages. Children will work like little elves in the art studios creating gifts and decorations in three different hands-on activities in addition to enjoying hot chocolate and cookies as well as a special visit. Tuition for the workshop is $15 and it is limited to 75 participants. The deadline to register is Dec. 2. The Children’s Christmas Workshop is sponsored by the Bank of Dickson.

2:00 p.m.

The CyberSphere presents Season of Light, a planetarium show that traces the origins of many of our holiday traditions. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and children under 13.

3:00 p.m.

The CyberSphere presents Laser Holidays, a show featuring many of your favorite holiday songs and carols accompanied by spectacular laser effects. Tickets are $6.

4:30-6:30 p.m.

A free reception in the rotunda celebrates the opening of the 8th annual Little Masters Art Exhibit and the Student Art Exhibit.

6:15-7:00 p.m.

The Renaissance Center’s Children’s Choir presents a free concert of holiday music in the rotunda. Directed by Jenny Diamond, the choir is comprised of students in third through sixth grades and will present its annual holiday concert Dec. 12.

6:30 p.m.

The Gaslight Dinner Theatre presents Christmas My Way: A Sinatra Holiday Bash. Four cool singers serve up hot versions of Frank Sinatra mainstays for the holidays after a delicious buffet dinner. Tickets are $27 per person and reservations are required. Christmas My Way is sponsored by the Bank of Dickson.

7:00 p.m.

The Renaissance Players present Annie in the Performance Hall. The popular comic strip orphan takes the stage in one of the world’s best-loved musicals. With songs like It’s the Hard Knock Life and Tomorrow, it’s sure to be fun for the whole family. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $7 for children under 13.

7:00 p.m.
