Workshop to help artists apply for Firefly Fine Arts Festival booths

Release Date: 10/28/2008. Expired: 11/8/2008

Area artists interested in applying for a booth at the inaugural Firefly Fine Arts Festival in Dickson next summer can get assistance with the online application process at a workshop being offered at The Renaissance Center.

The two-part workshop will be Saturday, Nov. 8, and will assist artists in preparing their applications through the Zapplication.org website.

Zapp Workshop Part 1: Documentation will be 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and will assist artists in creating digital images of their works with a professional photographer in a studio setting at The Renaissance Center. Each artist will be provided a CD containing digital images of the five pieces he has chosen to use in the application process.

Zapp Workshop Part 2: Digitally Manipulating will be 1-4 p.m. and will introduce the artists to the Zapplication website and process. They will then work in Photoshop to learn how to re-size their images to meet the specifications of the online application.

Tuition for each session is $20 and there is a limit of 10 students. Artists can take either one or both of the workshops. The deadline to register is 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31. To register, call (615) 740-5533.

Zapplication is the exclusive online application process for the Firefly Fine Arts Festival, being presented June 26-28 by Community Arts Development of Dickson County with assistance from The Renaissance Center and Tennessee Arts Commission.

Firefly is a juried festival, meaning artists’ applications for booths will be reviewed by a panel of professional jurors who will select the artists for the 125 booth spaces in a custom-designed site on the campus of The Renaissance Center.

Firefly Fine Arts Festival is open to artists who work in ceramics, digital media, drawing, fiber arts, glass, graphics/printmaking, jewelry, metalworks, mixed media, painting, photography, sculpture and wood. A minimum of $4,000 in jury prizes will be awarded, along with jury exemptions for the following year’s festival.

There is a $30 non-refundable application fee. Booths at the festival will be $350 or $425 for a limited number of corner booths. The deadline to submit an online application is Dec. 15 and there is a $30 discount for artists accepted for the festival who filed their applications by Nov. 15.

Artists will keep 100 percent of sales generated at the three-day festival and are responsible for all local and state sales taxes.

The jury panel will review applications Jan. 30-31 and the artist selections will be announced by Feb. 15.
