Senior Day to feature art, drama

The program for Senior Day at The Renaissance Center Sept. 25 renders a mix of the old and the new with a talk by the center’s Visual Arts Gallery curator and a live theatre production of a Shakespeare play in the Performance Hall.

Currently on exhibit in the Visual Arts Gallery is Jeff Hand’s Common/Uncommon, which Curator Curtis Southerland will discuss with visitors 10-11 a.m. Hand is a Middle Tennessee artist known for creating his work from rather unique mediums. He is also the recipient of the Judge’s Choice Award at the second annual Renaissance Regional Art Exhibition. Southerland will also answer other art-related questions and discuss the gallery.

The CyberSphere planetarium will present “Journey to Infinity” 10-11 a.m.

In the Performance Hall, The Renaissance Repertory Company will present R3, its original adaptation of Shakespeare’s Richard III, who is often called the Bard’s greatest villain. The production runs 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Senior Day activities at The Renaissance Center are free to anyone age 55 or older. Due to limited seating, reservations are required.

The Renaissance Center is also debuting Senior Lunch Theatre, in which seniors can see a midday presentation of the play currently being shown in the Gaslight Dinner Theatre on Friday evenings. The show and a box lunch are $15 for seniors and begin at noon. The debut of Senior Lunch Theatre with Nunsense on Sept. 17 is already sold out. The next Senior Lunch Theatre will feature The Boys Next Door at noon on Oct. 15. Lunch theatre will feature Christmas Seasonings II on Dec. 4.
