AIDS Memorial Quilt

For the third straight year, panels from the internationally recognized AIDS Memorial Quilt will be displayed at The Renaissance Center in a special one-day exhibit to observe World AIDS Day on Dec. 1.
A reception will be 7-8:30 p.m. featuring performances by Nashville in Harmony, vocalist Holly Lewis and students from The Harp School, Inc. The exhibit is sponsored by Church Street Freedom Press.
Three 12’X12’ segments of the memorial quilt will be displayed around the entrance to the Visual Arts Gallery.
“This traveling display serves as a monument to those stricken and also as an education means of awareness for the world AIDS crisis,” said Armon Means, curator for The Renaissance Center.
The AIDS Memorial Quilt is the world’s largest community art project consisting of thousands of quilt panels, each memorializing a victim of the AIDS epidemic. The NAMES Project Foundation coordinates the quilt project that has panels in traveling displays serving as memorials and to raise awareness in the battle against AIDS.
Nashville in Harmony is a 52-member mixed soprano/alto/tenor/bass chorus comprised of members and supporters of Middle Tennessee’s GLBT community. Directed by Don Schlosser, Nashville in Harmony performs all styles of music, from classical to pop, in a unique style that fosters community, joy and fun.
Also performing during the reception in the rotunda will be Holly Lewis and the Randall Brothers and students from The Harp School, Inc.

The Renaissance Center is a fine arts education and performing arts center at 855 Highway 46 South in Dickson, just 35 miles west of Nashville on Interstate 40 at exit 172.
