Renaissance Center art faculty works on display Dec. 8-Jan. 12

Release Date: 12/3/2007. Expired: 1/12/2008

The staff of The Renaissance Center’s Visual Arts Department will have the opportunity to display some of its works in a Faculty Exhibition Dec. 8-Jan. 12.

Works ranging from paintings to photography to stained glass to pottery will be displayed in the East and North Wing Galleries and the North Wing Display Cases. A closing reception for the exhibit will be 6-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008.

“The Renaissance Center is known as an educational resource to the surrounding area. Each year exhibitions are held to show what our students are producing and, to the delight of many smiling faces, their work is hung on walls or in display cases throughout the building,” said Armon Means, curator for The Renaissance Center. “While parents and students come to know their instructors and many of our staff on a first-name basis, they don’t have the opportunity to see what it is that we do outside of the walls of the center.

“This exhibition gives that opportunity. A fact of The Renaissance Center is that it’s not just our students or art teachers that are artistically inclined; there are also many staff members who create art. This exhibition is the opportunity to showcase that art for the public. We are proud to support our visual arts community in an educational capacity, but we are equally proud to have some of the finest local artists and educators producing their own unique art in their studios, darkrooms and homes. From quilting, photography and painting to drawing and carving – all forms of art are possibilities for this showing of the best The Renaissance Center has to offer.”

The Renaissance Center offers a wide variety of art classes each semester, from fiber arts to Native American art, from painting to pottery, from stained glass to photography. All of its full-time and adjunct art faculty will be invited to submit recent examples of their work for the exhibit.

All exhibitions at The Renaissance Center are open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and admission is free. The Renaissance Center will be closed Dec. 21-Jan. 2 for the holidays.
