Donley, Seals depict voyages in Journeys/Sidetrips in Visual Arts Gallery
Release Date: 5/11/2007. Expired: 6/30/2007
Middle Tennessee artists Barbara Donley and Andrea Seals will exhibit paintings representing the journeys each has taken in Journeys/Sidetrips, on display in the Visual Arts Gallery of The Renaissance Center in Dickson May 15-June 30.
This exhibition of paintings explores American and international landscapes as seen through the eyes of someone on a journey through these new lands.
Stylistically there are distinctions between the two artists’ work -- as they range from high to low color, sharp to sparse detail, realistic to impressionistic. Though in the subject and meaning we find striking similarity, as both deal with the secondary result of their travels. They seem to find a spiritual, contemplative and self-fulfilling purpose in these trips whether planned or accidental they speak to the artists’ own journey, both literally and metaphorically.
While the work examines a wide view, from the grand scale down to the private space, ultimately it speaks to the journey that we all take in life while gracefully doing it through the use of the western tradition of landscape painting.
Journeys/Sidetrips, featuring works by Barbara Donley and Andrea Seals, will be on display in the Visual Arts Gallery at The Renaissance Center May 15-June 30. An opening reception will be 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, May 18.
The galleries of The Renaissance Center are open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and admission is always free.
