The annual workshop will be 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and is limited to 75 participants ages 4 and up. Tuition is $15 and advance registration is required.
The Visual Arts Department faculty will divide the participants into three groups by age that will rotate through the three hands-on, holiday-themed activities creating gifts and decorations.
“The Children’s Christmas Workshop is one of the most popular art workshops we offer every year,” said Bob Kucher, senior director of Fine Arts. “In past years we’ve made everything from stockings to ornaments, from table decorations to edible treats. We’re already planning this year’s activities and the day is sure to be entertaining. This workshop always fills up very quickly, so parents should register as soon as possible.”
Parents registering children ages 4-6 are asked to stay during the workshop to assist, but many parents of older children use the three-hour window as an opportunity to go shopping or enjoy some of the day’s other activities at The Renaissance Center.
In addition to the art activities, the workshop participants will enjoy hot chocolate and cookies and there might even be a special visitor, so come prepared with your Christmas wish list and your camera to capture the magical moment.
The day also includes a Christmas Ornament Workshop for adults and children 15 or older. Taught by stained glass instructors Susan and David Allsbrooks, the workshop will consist of using clear beveled and textured glass to make a hanging Christmas ornament.
The workshop will be 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, and is limited to eight participants. Tuition is $60 and includes all needed supplies.
To register for one of the art workshops being held Dec. 6, call (615) 740-5533.
The workshops are just two highlights of a fun-filled day that includes an afternoon performance of Seussical, the Gaslight Dinner Theatre’s production of A Tuna Christmas, an opening reception for the 10th annual Little Masters Art Exhibit and exciting holiday-themed shows in the CyberSphere Digital Theater.
