The Little Masters is coming for the 10th year
To The Renaissance Center and parents will cheer!
Dr. Seuss is the theme the teachers did pick,
Now making some art will be the main trick.

The stories and characters of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss will adorn the walls of the Visual Arts Gallery at The Renaissance Center in Dickson in the 10th annual Little Masters Art Exhibit Dec. 3-Jan. 10. An opening reception will be 12-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.

Each year the Visual Arts faculty of The Renaissance Center works with art teachers in the Dickson County school system in choosing a theme and then creating artwork to display in the gallery.

For the 10th annual Little Masters Art Exhibit, each participating school will choose a different Dr. Seuss book and then create art from the stories. The pieces can be in any medium and style.

“It is this diversity of image making and ideas that is encouraged and fostered by working alongside educators to help develop programs such as this, that give the opportunity to incorporate new activities into the classroom,” said Amanda Dillingham, curator at The Renaissance Center. “As an increased art effort is being promoted in schools across the country to integrate the arts into all curriculums, this program strives to keep our community schools in the forefront of the movement. Students not only learn to continue being creative, but do it within an educational framework where the outcome is a clear goal: the exhibition.”

It also shows to students the inherent career possibilities within the creative arts. With this annual effort, Dickson County public schools and The Renaissance Center strive to educate and promote arts awareness for all students and blossoming young artists while allowing them the chance to exhibit in a professional setting.

Participating schools and the stories they have chosen include:
Stuart-Burns Elementary: How the Grinch Stole Christmas;
Vanleer Elementary: Horton Hatches an Egg and Horton Hears a Who;
Centennial Elementary: Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?;
Dickson Elementary: Green Eggs and Ham;
The Discovery School: The ABC Book, and;
Charlotte Elementary: a collection of books.

The reception will be held 12-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, immediately following the 9th annual Children’s Christmas Workshop and prior to the Mind Enriching Theatre series production of Seussical, a musical based on the works of Dr. Seuss.
