2nd Annual Middle Tennessee Regional Student Art Exhibition

The Renaissance Center partnering with the Tennessee Art Education Association is excited to announce the 2nd Annual Middle Tennessee Regional Student Art Exhibition on display in the Visual Art Gallery, East Wing Gallery and North Wing Gallery from Nov. 14th through Dec. 18th, 2009. An award ceremony will take place Nov. 21st from 1-3pm.
The education staff of the Knoxville Museum of Art working in concert with a committee of East Tennessee art educators, designed this annual competition to offer middle and high school students the opportunity to display their talents and to be honored for their accomplishments. The last two years, this competition has taken place in West, Middle and East Tennessee.
Public, private, and home school students in grades 6-12, in all counties of Middle Tennessee were sent entry materials. Categories for the competition include ceramic, drawing, digital imagery, mixed media, painting, computer graphics, sculpture, traditional photography and printmaking. Over 400 artworks were entered in the competition from which the jurors accepted about 200 for inclusion. The jurors were impressed by the high quality of artwork this year and greatly excited for the future of this competition. Attached is a list of accepted students, their schools, teachers and grade levels.
The Best-of-Show winner, Jenna Hiebert, a 12th grader from Brentwood High School, will receive a purchase award of $500, and the artwork will become part of the permanent collection of The Renaissance Center. The TAEA sponsors cash prizes for each “Best of” Category and Jerry’s Artarama sponsor gift certificates the top in each grade level. In addition, scholarships for winning students are being offered to Memphis College of Art, Maryland Institute College of Art (college and precollege), The Art Institute of Nashville, Savannah College of Art and Design, New Hampshire Institute of Art (college and precollege), College for Creative Studies, Watkins College of Art & Design (college and precollege), O’More College of Art, Millsaps University and more. Finally the teacher of the Best-of-Show piece, Barbara Bullard, will receive a gift certificate from Plaza Artists Materials and Picture Framing.
A free reception and award ceremony open to the public will take place from 1-3pm on November 21st, 2009.The Renaissance Center is an arts, technology education and performing arts center just 35 miles west of Nashville.
