Release Date: 12/21/2004. Expired: 5/14/2005
Professional photographer Martin E. O’Connor will display a collection of photographs capturing dancers in motion and posing in an exhibit entitled Motion & Repose in the Visual Arts Gallery of The Renaissance Center in Dickson March 11-April 23. An opening reception with O’Connor will be 6-7:30 p.m. March 11. The exhibit and reception are free. The exhibit at The Renaissance Center will be the premiere collective display of the Nashville native’s work. O’Connor, owner of Martin O’Connor Photography on Greenland Avenue in Nashville, is normally found behind the camera for weddings and portraits, but also has an extensive collection of photographs featuring highly skilled dancers as the subject. “These photographs exquisitely capture these performers executing precise dance movements as well as in classical poses,” said Curtis Southerland, curator of the Visual Arts Gallery. “These studio shots of dancers in graceful aerial movements create dynamic, gravity-defying images, while his subtle poses and stances create strong static compositions.” The artistic sense of movement and rhythm found in each photograph is paralleled with the physical motion presented by the subjects, according to O’Connor. The exhibit will feature both color and black and white photographs in the first collective display of O’Connor’s pieces. For more information on Martin O’Connor’s photography exhibit Motion & Repose in the Visual Arts Gallery of The Renaissance Center, call Southerland at (615) 740-5519 or visit the center’s Web site at www.rcenter.org.
