Release Date: 8/1/2001. Expired: 9/29/2001
Jeff Hand is a Middle Tennessee artist known for creating works of art using rather unique mediums. In the past, his use of materials such as fake fur has created colorful conversational pieces of art. As recipient of the Judge’s Choice Award at the 2nd Annual Renaissance Regional Art Exhibition, Jeff will be having a solo exhibit of his most recent works in the Visual Arts Gallery at The Renaissance Center from August 24-September 29. The opening reception will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, August 24 which is open to the public.
Although his artistic talents are quite vast and diverse, he is best known for transforming ordinary objects and images into contemporary icons. His work has been shown in New York, California, North Carolina, Georgia and throughout the state of Tennessee. He has been actively involved in the Nashville arts community for over 10 years as an exhibiting artist, a gallery curator, an educator and an advocate for the arts. To foster an arts community in East Nashville, Jeff started the group Position East, a group of artists who set up two exhibits annually in various locations in the East Nashville community.
The diversity of his work and his vibrant use of color are among the trademarks of his artistic talent. To demonstrate the breadth of his work, he is among a select group of artists who have won a Nashville Music Award for his design of the album cover for singer Neal Coty. His artwork can also be seen on the boxed CD set for the Hank Williams collection for Mercury Records. As curator for The Gallery on Broadway for two years, almost every show he chose to display was reviewed and received critical acclaim.
This noted Tennessee artist has received the honor of having his work chosen as part of the permanent collections of the Nashville International Airport and the Tennessee State Museum. His work has also been commissioned for Mercury Records and for the Metro Davidson County Library. He is the fifth artist to have a solo exhibit in the Visual Arts Gallery as a result of his participation in the Renaissance Regional Art Exhibit.
Jeff’s use of materials uncommon to making art is sure to create an exhibition of dynamic proportions. For more information on events at The Renaissance Center, call (615)740-5600.
