Kolodziejski exhibit opens April 26

Release Date: 4/22/2002. Expired: 5/31/2002

Contemporary realist Vinci Kolodziejski will present her artwork in exhibit in The Renaissance Center’s Visual Arts Gallery April 26-May 31.

Using water media to explore botanical, still life, architectural and landscape images, this school teacher and artist continues to challenge herself through her work and by private commissions that afford opportunities for new directions.

Light-filled color and sensitive observation characterize her style. Her use of watercolor permits the fluid, sparkling, transparent effect vital to her work and allows the viewer to enjoy a vantage point that might be overlooked. She often uses rhythmical, botanical images and textures to create a quiet, glowing still life or landscape that evokes a nostalgic reaction and allows the viewer to experience a quiet beauty and serene respite from a hectic world.

Major influences in her work are derived from her gardens and travels, especially three trips to Europe to meet relatives. On her first trip to Greece in 1980, she met her father’s sisters and families on the island of Kythera. Eastern Europe and Slovakia were the destinations of the second and third trips in 1994 and 1997. In Slovakia she met dozens of relatives on her mother’s side.

The last trip afforded several opportunities to paint on location and she found the sunlight was incredible and the country was a beautiful and intriguing mix of the old and new. She found she could communicate through art in a way she could not do by speaking the language. As a result, some of her smaller works fit into the genre theme.

Kolodziejski also enjoys sharing her knowledge by teaching and stimulating creativity in both children and adults. She is currently a visual arts specialist at New Dodson Elementary School.

A native of Pennsylvania, the artist received her degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Studies at Watkins Institute and numerous workshops have contributed to her professional development.

She is an artist member of the Tennessee Watercolor Society, the Nashville Artist Guild, the Visual Arts Alliance of Nashville, the Tennessee Art Education Association and the National Art Education Association.

Kolodziejski’s work is included in private and corporate collections.

Her exhibit opens in the Visual Arts Gallery at The Renaissance Center April 26. A reception will be 5-8 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Admission is free. For more information, call (615)740-5600.
