8th Little Masters Exhibit to feature students' self-portraits Dec. 9-Jan. 20

Release Date: 11/16/2006. Expired: 1/20/2007

Self-portraits in a variety of styles will be displayed in The Renaissance Center’s 8th annual Little Masters Exhibit, which features works created by Dickson County students each year.

Coordinated with art teachers throughout the Dickson County school system, the Little Masters Exhibit will have the theme Look at Me. The exhibit will be on display in the Visual Arts Gallery of The Renaissance Center Dec. 9-Jan. 20. An opening reception will be 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9.

Each year the art faculty of The Renaissance Center works with art teachers in Dickson County’s public schools to coordinate the Little Masters Exhibit. The teachers choose a theme and then work with their students to create the pieces for the exhibit.

Look at Me will show the students a variety of classic self-portraits and styles, then ask the students to create their own self-portrait with each school choosing a style.

Curtis Southerland, an art teacher at Stuart-Burns Elementary School and former curator for The Renaissance Center, will be coordinating the exhibit along with Armon Means, the center’s new gallery curator. All public schools in the Dickson County system are invited to participate in the exhibit.

Past themes for the Little Masters Exhibit have included social awareness quilts, famous artists, holiday trees and art from around the world.

The Little Masters Exhibit will be open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday, Dec. 9-Jan. 20. The exhibit and opening reception are free and open to the public.
