Release Date: 10/4/2005. Expired: 11/30/2005
More than 200 works of art have been submitted by over 70 artists from across the southeast to be considered for inclusion in the Renaissance Regional Art Exhibit at The Renaissance Center in Dickson.
The pieces selected for the 7th annual Renaissance Regional Art Exhibit (RRAE) will be displayed in The Renaissance Center’s Visual Arts Gallery Oct. 22-Nov. 30. An opening reception will be 6-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22.
The RRAE is open to any artist over the age of 16 who resides in Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Louisiana or Virginia. The artwork must have been completed within the past three years and each artist can submit up to five pieces.
Submissions can be any art medium, from traditional two-dimensional art to three-dimensional sculptures and others.
The submissions are reviewed by a professional juror who selects 30-35 pieces to be display in the gallery.
Dana Holland-Beickert, an independent curator, consultant and art appraiser from Memphis, is juror for this year’s RRAE.
Holland-Beickert holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Art History and is an accredited member of the International Society of Appraisers with a specialty in fine art. Formerly the curator of exhibitions at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, she has developed and organized more than 65 exhibitions and site-specific installations.
Since 2002, she has coordinated the Artist Market for the Arts in the Park fine arts festival in Memphis. She is active as a guest curator, juror, lecturer and writer.
Once the pieces for the RRAE are selected, there will be cash prizes awarded. The Judge’s Choice, Excellence and Purchase awards include a $500 prize and there are $250 Merit Awards.
Several artists who have been selected for past Renaissance Regional Art Exhibits have then been selected for solo exhibits in the Visual Arts Gallery by Curator Curtis Southerland.
“The Renaissance Regional Art Exhibit always includes a wide variety of art mediums and styles,” Southerland said. “For many artists, it is their first opportunity for regional exposure of their work and leads to additional chances for solo exhibits not only at The Renaissance Center but in other galleries throughout the region.”
