Release Date: 7/24/2007. Expired: 7/31/2007

Artists across the Southeast once again have the opportunity to submit entries for The Renaissance Center’s juried exhibition, the 9th annual Renaissance Regional Art Exhibit.

Any artist over the age of 16 who lives in one of the 11 southeastern states can submit up to five works created in the last three years in any medium. A professional juror and Armon Means, the center’s curator, will review the entries and select pieces to be shown in the Visual Arts Gallery and East Wing Gallery Sept. 5-Oct. 20. An opening reception for the show will be 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7.

The deadline for submitting entries for the 9th annual Renaissance Regional Art Exhibit is Tuesday, July 31. Entry information and entry forms are available by calling the center or on its website. Click Here for Entry Forms...

The Renaissance Regional Art Exhibit annually draws 200-400 entries from artists in Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.

Last year’s exhibition showcased the work of 39 artists presenting 52 pieces, chosen from the more than 270 entries submitted.

“As an exhibition that inherently draws from multiple media, subjects and styles, the RRAE is always a crowd favorite,” said Means. “Outside of a private or museum collection, it is rare to find a viewing of such a diverse and assorted group of work, but yet still have it flow together into one harmonious whole.”

Both the gallery curator and the guest juror for the exhibition, who have the distinct challenge of pulling together such an eclectic body of work, equally seek the goal of visual and aesthetic harmony. This daunting effort is accomplished through a combination of critique, placement, design and composition; many of the same elements utilized in the artworks themselves.

“The Renaissance Center is proud to bring this unique and ever-changing exhibition back once again, continuing its tradition of artistic excellence,” said Means. “For many artists, it is their first opportunity for regional exposure of their work and leads to additional chances for solo exhibits not only at The Renaissance Center but in other galleries throughout the region.”

The juror for the 2007 RRAE is Jamie Tracy, an instructor of Photography and assistant for Fine Arts at Manatee Community College in Bradenton, Fla. Tracy received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the Cleveland Institute of Art in Ohio and his Master of Fine Arts from The School of Visual Arts in New York.

He has been a practicing photographer for 10 years and specializes in fine art photography, often inspired by traditional abstract painting. Tracy has taught at multiple institutions including The Ringling School of Art in Miami. He is represented in multiple private collections throughout the United States and exhibits his work nationally and internationally.

Tracy’s work will be featured in the North Wing Gallery at The Renaissance Center in an exhibit titled Color Fields Oct. 31-Dec. 1.

Once the pieces for the RRAE are selected, there will be cash prizes awarded.
