Release Date: 7/7/2003. Expired: 8/19/2003

The Visual Arts Gallery of The Renaissance Center will host the 5th annual Renaissance Regional Art Exhibit featuring selected pieces from more than 400 expected entries.

The Renaissance Regional Art Exhibit will be on display Sept. 20-Nov. 15, with an opening reception 5-7 p.m. Sept. 20. The deadline to submit entries for the regional exhibit is Aug. 19.

Curtis Southerland, curator for the Visual Arts Gallery, said a call for entries is being sent out to artists in 12 southeastern states. The exhibit is open to any artist 16 years of age and older who resides in Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina or Virginia.

In its last two years, the Renaissance Regional Art Exhibit has drawn more than 400 entries each year.

The RRAE is a juried show. A professional art juror looks at all the entries, and then selects 30-40 pieces that are then put on display in the Visual Arts Gallery.

Entries are open to all mediums and styles of artwork and each artist may submit a maximum of five entries. A standard slide of the original artwork will be the only accepted format for the submission to the juror. There is a $10 entry fee per slide. All entries will be notified following the jury process and selected entries will then be shipped or delivered to The Renaissance Center.

Entry forms are available on the RRAE page, or by calling Southerland at (615)740-5519.

Several artists selected for past Renaissance Regional Art Exhibits have gone on to be featured in solo shows in the Visual Arts Gallery, including Everett Niewoehner, Nick Long, Susan Hicks Bryant, Kathryn Dettwiller, Dorna McDonald May and others.
