Frogs, flowers highlight art exhibits in Renaissance Center wings
Release Date: 7/28/2004. Expired: 9/30/2004
The world from a frog’s perspective and the vivid colors of flowers will be the focus of two art exhibits in the wings of The Renaissance Center Aug. 18-Sept. 30.
The East Wing Gallery will feature Toadal Vision, a display of photographs by Larry Safko. The award-winning Clarksville photographer has created a collection of photographs of the world from a toad’s eye view.
“Viewers of Larry’s photographs are sure to be fascinated by how humanistic his toads become when incorporated into common everyday human scenes,” said Curator Curtis Southerland. “Come be amused by this whimsical and extraordinary perspective of the world from the eye of a toad.”
The North Wing Gallery will be splashed with color in a display of acrylic paintings by Joan Lawler.
A painter of lush, sensuous and brightly colorful flowers and landscapes, Lawler has loved vivid colors ever since she was a child.
“Every school year my favorite part of getting ready was the box of 48 Crayolas that were part of the required supplies for St. Paul’s Catholic School,” Lawler said.
She began painting in acrylics in July 2001 and finds motivation and subjects for her floral paintings from her garden and the gardens of friends.
Her floral piece Amadeus was juried into the 2002 Central South Exhibition at Belmont University’s prestigious Leu Gallery and her floral piece Great Balls of Fire was selected in 2003.
Lawler’s art hangs in both private and corporate collections across Tennessee.
An opening reception with Lawler will be 6-7:30 p.m. Aug. 21.
