Laser Vinyl is a “must see” at CyberSphere

Release Date: 10/10/2001. Expired: 10/20/2001

The classic rock music of the 1970s is host to state-of-the-art laser and 3D animation imagery in the CyberSphere as The Renaissance Center presents Laser Vinyl, a high-energy and nostalgic musical journey back in time.

This powerful, musically fueled show is 42 minutes of pure energy, excitement and entertainment, featuring a 3D animation laser production set to the rock-and-roll classics of AC/DC, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Van Halen, Queen, Kansas, Kiss, Aerosmith, Boston, Journey and Pink Floyd.

The production is presented in the CyberSphere Digital Theatre, which features 360-degree laser effects, 3D Digistar computer graphics and more than 14,000 watts of crystal clear digital sound for an intense experience.

The CyberSphere seats up to 138 under a hemispherical dome 60 feet in diameter and covers more than 6,000 square feet.

A new twist that accompanies Laser Vinyl is pre-show entertainment as guests are treated to music and animation before the feature begins.

“I’m incorporating slides as well as 3D animation that is being projected on the dome,” said Stacey Currens, director of the CyberSphere. “For instance, in Laser Vinyl, I’ve got slides of the bands coming up on both sides of the dome as well as the 3D animation of a juke box before the show even starts. It’s entertainment before the show.

“There’s more animation, it’s more high energy music, even the classic rock,” he said.

From its inception to its completion, Laser Vinyl took about 1,400 man-hours to create, Currens said.

Showtime for Laser Vinyl is 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays in the CyberSphere through Oct. 20. Tickets are $6.

Beginning Oct. 26 the CyberSphere will present the return of last year’s immensely popular Laser Horrors and The Halloween Ball.

Celebrating the Halloween season, Laser Horrors is a family show featuring hits such as Monster Mash, Bad Moon Rising, Boris the Spider, People Are Strange, Frankenstein and others with special Halloween laser, digital and slide effects. Laser Horrors will be shown at 8 p.m. Oct. 26 and 27, then 7 p.m. Oct. 30 and 31. There will be special showings at 2, 3, 4 and 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, during the center’s 2nd annual Halloween Festival. Admission for Laser Horrors is $6.

The Halloween Ball features heavy metal music such as Metallica accompanied by clips from classic horror movies. It is intended for mature audiences only. Admission for The Halloween Ball is $10. Showings are scheduled for 9 p.m. Oct. 26 and 27 and 8 p.m. Oct. 30 and 31.
