The Renaissance Center’s Meth Is Death video, produced for the Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference’s methamphetamine awareness campaign, picked up two Emmy Awards from the Nashville/Midsouth Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

The 20th annual awards ceremony was held Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel.

Meth Is Death won the Informational/Instructional category while videographer/editor Barry Cross won the Editor/Non-News category for his work on the project.

Meth Is Death was commissioned by the Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference as part of a statewide campaign to combat the growing problem of methamphetamine production and usages. The video includes interviews with meth producers and addicts as well as law enforcement representatives.

Steve Hall, director of the Multimedia Department at The Renaissance Center, was executive producer for the video with David Van Hooser as writer and producer, Cross, Ken Tucker and Matt Emigh as videographers and Cross as editor.

“The Meth Is Death campaign is an extremely important project and we are excited to have been a part of it,” said Hall. “I’m grateful for the commitment to excellence by all of the truly talented individuals who are a part of our Multimedia team, who also just happen to be wonderful people. We all cared deeply about the project and are pleased to see it recognized, but, more importantly, hope that it can play a role in preventing the spread of meth abuse.”

More than 700 entries were submitted for the Nashville/Midsouth Chapter awards, resulting in 270 nominations in 59 categories.

The Renaissance Center received five nominations, bringing its total to 39 in the last six years, with the two awards presented pushing the center’s Emmy statue total to 11.
