Lunar Sample Certification Workshop at The Renaissance Center
Release Date: 8/1/2000. Expired: 8/22/2000
The Renaissance Center is hosting NASA Aerospace Education Specialist Dr. Wil Robertson 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000. Robertson will be conducting a Lunar Sample Certification Workshop for K-12 teachers. This special training workshop will certify classroom teachers to check out lunar samples for classroom use.
The collection of rocks from the moon is a tangible legacy of the U.S. Apollo Space Program. NASA makes a small portion of this extraterrestrial material available for classroom use through the Lunar Sample Loan Program.
“We are a satellite Education Resource Center (ERC), supplying NASA materials to teachers in Dickson, Davidson, Rutherford, Williamson, Humphreys, Hickman, Stewart, Houston, Cheatham, Robertson, Lewis, Maury, Sumner, Wilson, Marshall and Montgomery counties,” said Kevin Scott, director of Digital Theatre Productions at The Renaissance Center. “Moon rocks are valued at millions of dollars per sample. For teachers to obtain these samples through the loan program, they must attend this workshop that takes them through the particulars of handling, transporting and storage of these artifacts.”
The workshop is free and will be held at The Renaissance Center with light refreshments to be served. Registration forms are available at The Renaissance Center or from the NASA ERC, University of Tennessee at Martin.
