Open model sessions set at Renaissance Center
Release Date: 10/10/2001. Expired: 11/8/2001
It’s a deal no local professional or amateur artist can refuse. Open model sessions, where artists draw human shapes and figures with the help of live “models,” begin at The Renaissance Center Nov. 8 at cost of only $5 per session. Similar sessions in Nashville and elsewhere normally cost around $40.
Julie Houdeshell, manager of the Visual Arts Studios at The Renaissance Center, says “The sessions are a wonderful opportunity for local artists to draw figures. A lot of our students have expressed a great deal of interest in having open modeling sessions, and we are glad to be able to provide them with this unique opportunity.”
The sessions run 7-9 p.m. the second Thursday of every month and are open to anyone interested drawing figures. Artists must supply their own materials. Standing and sitting easels are provided by the Center.
Houdeshell, who teaches art at Vanderbilt University and the Renaissance Center, will offer free instruction at the sessions as well.
No preregistration is required and students can pay at the door.

The Renaissance Center is located at 855 Highway 46 South in Dickson, just 35 minutes west of Nashville.
