Faraday Café offers plate lunches at TRC
Release Date: 2/22/2002. Expired: 4/22/2002
As The Renaissance Center continues to cater to virtually every taste in its arts and educational menu, its place in the culinary arena has expanded as well. Visitors now have a variety of foods to choose from to please their palates while they spend the day taking classes, participating in workshops or just browsing around the facility.
Located on the lower level of the center, the Faraday Café might just have been the best-kept secret in Dickson County the past three years. However, the secret’s out now since the café offers a hot plate lunch each weekday along with its regular fare of nachos, hot dogs, soups, pizza, salads and market fresh sandwiches.
“A lot of the businesses around here have been looking for a place to replace East Hills Restaurant since it closed and they really haven’t found it,” said Jesse Tipping, director of Food Service at The Renaissance Center. “Then Montgomery Bell closed two months ago and a lot of the East Hills people had gone to Montgomery Bell. With the park closing like that I think they lost a lot of their customers.”
Montgomery Bell closed in December and opens again this month.
The head chef, Carmen Edwards, came to the 76-seat Faraday Café from Montgomery Bell and with her years of experience she heads up the hot buffet.
“She prepares all of the food herself,” Tipping said. “She has many, many, many years of experience. She worked at East Hills for seven years, then went over to Montgomery Bell and I worked with her there.”
Beverly Joseph and Leslie Gentry round out the Faraday Café staff and basically run the café.
At a cost of only $5, the lunch features a meat and three vegetables, rolls and dessert. Beverages are not included.
Entrees include roast pork loin with plum sauce, roast beef, corned beef and cabbage, catfish, chicken and dumplings, and many more.
The plate lunch is served 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. To find out what’s on the menu for the day call the Faraday Café at (615)740-5621 or 740-5508.
The Faraday Café is open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Renaissance Center is located at 855 Highway 46 South in Dickson, just 35 minutes west of Nashville on Interstate 40 at exit 172.
