No More Secrets performance to benefit Child Advocacy Center Aug. 17

Release Date: 8/8/2007. Expired: 8/17/2007

The Renaissance Center presents a special benefit performance of a musical play written to teach children about abuse and show them how to seek help. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Child Advocacy Center, which provides a private, child friendly environment with the goal of putting children at ease during criminal investigations.

No More Secrets: The Musical will be presented in the center’s Performance Hall at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors 55 and over and $4 for children under 13.

Written by Geraldine Ann Snyder and Paul Lenzi, No More Secrets: The Musical has toured the country and been performed for thousands of school children. No More Secrets is a musical written to prevent and intervene in child abuse situations. It encourages children to identify with believable situations and characters through songs, comedy and drama.

On the night that her mother has night duty at the hospital, Jenny brings a friend, DeeDee, home to spend the night. Mother has asked a neighbor to keep an eye on the girls, but Jenny does not like the neighbor or the hugs, kisses, touches and the secrets the neighbor makes Jenny keep. Jenny is convinced that if she tells this secret no one will believe her.

The play shows the deviousness of child abusers and how easily children can be shamed into keeping hideous secrets in this spellbinding musical with a jolting conclusion. Although the subject is a very serious one, the performance provides an inspirational and non-threatening lesson on how to handle a situation involving inappropriate touch.

No More Secrets: The Musical also is being offered in three performances for school field trips to The Renaissance Center. Performances will be 10 a.m. Wednesday-Friday, Aug. 15-17. The play is recommended for audiences in grades Kindergarten-sixth.

Proceeds from all performances will benefit the Child Advocacy Center, which is used when interviewing children involved in sexual and severe physical abuse investigations, situations where the child is a witness to a violent act or when a child must be interviewed during a crime investigation. This type of environment increases the probability of more complete responses from the child and a better determination of the facts for the investigator. Additionally, it connects the family into a system of child advocacy and support services if needed.
